Remote Access - Desktop

With eCandidus™ Desktop, you can easily work from anywhere Internet access is available.  This feature requires no extra equipment or software, it is built into the eCandidus™ Server, and available to all users.

How it is done - Human Speak

eCandidus™ Server provides its services as Web Services, a technical term which means that it uses the standard Microsoft IIS Server, supplied as part of Windows 2000, XP or 2003 Server or Professional.

By the use of a free outside service, the Microsoft IIS Server can be given an Internet Name, which can be used by the eCandidus™ Desktop to access the server from anywhere where Internet access is available.

Make the server accessible from outside by:

  1. Give the server a fixed IP address.  The address does not need to be a non-public address, it can be a 192.168.xxx.xxx or 10.xxx.xxx.xxx address.
  2. Have the router route HTTP (port 80) request go to the fixed IP address.
  3. Use DynDNS.com to setup a dynamic dns routing to the router.  Click on the links to get more information.
  4. Create an entry in the user's eCandidus™ Desktop Settings:Station tool that has the URL defined in DynDNS.  When the user is at the office he/she would use the regular server setting, and when outside he/she uses this setting.
